FLUX EP#4 - DR KAREN NICKELL
FLUX is an OFFSHOOT TV and Belfast School of Art podcast showcasing conversations with interesting folk enjoying a career in the creative industries following time at Ulster University.
In each episode, we’ll dive into the ideas behind a subject’s work, exploring what's driving innovation and inspiration in Belfast and beyond. The series marks a special moment in the history of our School - the 175 anniversary - and provides a special opportunity for us to reflect on the breath and diversity of the disciplines and specialisations the school teaches.
This firsts series of five episodes is hosted by Lyndsey McDougall, a lecturer in Art & Design History and Theory at Belfast School of Art.
For this edition Lyndsey chats with Karen Nickell - a textile historian and educator from Northern Ireland whose research explores the intersections of embroidery, education and community. Her seminal thesis, Embroidery in the Expanded Field (2014), has made a significant contribution to the field and has inspired new research into Irish embroidery.
Presented by Lyndsey McDougall.
Produced by Amy McGoldrick.
Music by Cahir O'Doherty.
